Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Launches ₹1 Crore Accident Insurance Scheme for Electricity Staff
Samaya Jyothi, Telangana | June 11, 2025 — In a landmark move set to be etched in the history of Telangana, Deputy Chief Minister Sri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced the formal signing of an agreement for the ₹1 Crore Accident Insurance Scheme for 50,000 electricity department employees. The event was held at Praja Bhavan and witnessed the participation of top dignitaries, including CMDs of energy corporations and senior officials.
The Deputy CM lauded the selfless dedication and relentless efforts of electricity employees across the state, emphasizing their crucial role in powering the progress of Telangana and the nation. “These workers labor tirelessly—rain or shine—risking their lives to maintain uninterrupted power supply. This insurance scheme is our commitment to ensure that their families are safeguarded in case of unforeseen mishaps,” he said.
He stated that this initiative provides a major social security cushion to the employees, especially those working under hazardous conditions. The scheme promises a ₹1 crore accident insurance cover, a substantial figure reflecting the value the government places on the lives of these frontline workers.
Key Highlights of the Scheme:
Insurance Coverage: A comprehensive accident insurance cover of ₹1 crore for all 50,000 electricity employees across Telangana.
No Minimum Balance Required: Employees can avail services with zero balance in their bank accounts.
Free Services: ATM card and cheque book services will be provided without any service charges.
Natural Death Benefit: A coverage of up to ₹10 lakhs in the case of natural death.
Family Protection: Insurance benefits up to ₹20 lakhs will extend to four family members of the employee.
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka stressed that the wellbeing of every electricity employee’s family was a personal concern. “Though their designations may vary—from linemen to CMDs—every individual has a family, and their protection is paramount. An accidental death should not result in emotional and financial chaos. This scheme ensures that families are not left devastated,” he said.
The power sector has long been considered a backbone for economic development. The Deputy CM noted that its contribution to the state’s GDP growth is invaluable, making it imperative to safeguard the interests of those working in this essential sector.
