In a deeply emotional and solemn moment, the mortal remains of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani were transported today from Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, to his hometown Rajkot, where his final rites will be held.

Rupani was among the 241 lives lost in the tragic Air India AI-171 crash on June 12 — an accident that has shaken the entire nation.

The ambulance carrying his body departed under tight security and a heavy atmosphere of mourning, with senior officials, family members, and party workers gathered to pay their respects.


A Leader Mourned by Many

Vijay Rupani served as Gujarat’s Chief Minister from 2016 to 2021, earning a reputation for his steady leadership and administrative reform. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the political fraternity and citizens alike, cutting short a legacy that still held influence in state politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, and opposition leaders have all expressed condolences, remembering Rupani as a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for Gujarat’s development.
