On International Anti-Drug Day, Hyderabad Collector Hari Chandana Leads Awareness Rally at Jalavihar
Say No to Drugs Rally Hyderabad: Collector Hari Chandana Inspires Youth to Choose Life Over Addiction
In a bold and uplifting initiative, Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana led the ‘Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life’ awareness rally at Jalavihar today, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event aimed to raise awareness among youth, empower communities, and reinforce the importance of a drug-free lifestyle.
The rally, organized by the district administration in collaboration with local NGOs, student groups, and health officials, saw enthusiastic participation from students, volunteers, medical professionals, and police personnel.
A Powerful Message at Jalavihar
The Say No to Drugs rally in Hyderabad was flagged off by Collector Hari Chandana, who addressed the gathering with a strong message:
“Drugs destroy not only individuals but entire families and communities. Let us say no to addiction and yes to a healthy, purpose-driven life.”
Carrying banners, placards, and slogans such as “Your Future is Bright – Stay Away from Drugs” and “One Life, One Chance – Don’t Waste it on Drugs,” hundreds marched through the streets surrounding Jalavihar, turning the area into a vibrant hub of hope and determination.
Why This Rally Matters
The event coincided with June 26 – International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a global day designated by the United Nations to promote action and cooperation in achieving a drug-free society.
Hyderabad, being a fast-growing urban center with a large youth population, faces increasing challenges related to drug use, peer pressure, and lack of awareness about the consequences of substance abuse. Events like this rally are vital to create a preventive culture and offer positive alternatives to the youth.
Youth at the Forefront of Change
One of the highlights of the rally was the active participation of college and high school students, who not only joined the walk but also spoke about the impact of drug abuse on mental health, relationships, and academic performance.
Some students performed short street plays and skits portraying real-life consequences of drug addiction, sparking conversations and drawing applause from the crowd.
“We believe that awareness is the first step toward prevention. Today, we stood together to say enough is enough,” said Akanksha, a student volunteer from Osmania University.

Support from Police and Health Officials
Representatives from the Hyderabad Police Department, district medical officers, and members of the Drug Control Bureau were also present. They distributed educational pamphlets, offered guidance on spotting early signs of addiction, and introduced the public to toll-free helplines and counseling services.
Officials also urged schools and colleges to include substance abuse awareness modules in their curriculum and encouraged parents to maintain open communication with their children.
Collector Hari Chandana’s Continued Advocacy
This isn’t the first time Collector Hari Chandana has been vocal about public health and youth empowerment. Known for her proactive administrative style and people-first approach, she reiterated her commitment to building a safe, healthy, and drug-free Hyderabad.
“Addiction is not just a personal struggle—it’s a social concern. We must come together, across all sectors, to ensure our young people are safe, educated, and supported,” she said.
Her leadership has been instrumental in initiating several wellness campaigns across Hyderabad, ranging from mental health awareness drives to fitness challenges and environmental projects.
Community Efforts and the Way Forward
Local NGOs and community leaders echoed the need for continuous public engagement, suggesting monthly awareness drives, peer support groups, and anonymous drop-in centers for those seeking help with substance use.
Plans are also underway to organize anti-drug awareness workshops in schools, promote interactive social media campaigns, and establish more de-addiction and rehabilitation centers across Hyderabad.
“The rally today is just the beginning,” said a representative from a partnering NGO. “Real change will come when society treats addiction as a health issue—not a stigma.”
A Call to Action for Hyderabad
The Say No to Drugs rally in Hyderabad marked more than an observance—it signified a movement toward conscious, collective action. Through the leadership of officials like Collector Hari Chandana, and the energy of the city’s youth, Hyderabad is setting an example for other districts in Telangana and across the country.
As the chants of “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life!” echoed through Jalavihar, a powerful message was delivered—not only to current generations, but to future ones as well: health, hope, and happiness are the real highs we must seek.
