Robots May Aid in Rescue Operation as Eight Workers Remain Trapped in SLBC Tunnel
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is exploring the possibility of deploying robots in the ongoing rescue operation at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel to ensure the safety of rescue personnel, officials said on Monday (March 3, 2025).
The rescue operation has been significantly hindered by large quantities of slush and water inside the tunnel, making it a challenging task for the rescue teams.
Nagarkurnool Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Gaikwad stated that the authorities are considering the use of robotic technology to navigate through the debris and aid in locating the trapped workers while prioritizing the safety of rescuers.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the SLBC tunnel site on Sunday (March 2, 2025) to assess the ongoing rescue efforts. He stated that the exact location of the eight trapped workers, who are about 14 km inside the tunnel, remains unknown due to a thick layer of over 5 meters of mud. Authorities estimate that it may take another two to three days to locate them.
