Is Sania Mirza gearing up to contest elections against Owaisi? Get the details on this potential political move by the Congress, proposed by Mohammed Azharuddin. Explore the electoral landscape of Hyderabad and the dynamics of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda have set the internet ablaze with the reveal of their distinctive beach wedding invitation.
In a surprising twist, the Congress party is reportedly mulling over fielding renowned tennis player Sania Mirza against AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sources suggest that Mirza’s name for the candidature was proposed by former Indian cricket captain and Congress leader Mohammed Azharuddin.
The Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) discussed potential candidates in a meeting held on Wednesday, where Mirza’s name was speculated to have been considered. Political analysts speculate that Congress aims to leverage Mirza’s popularity and celebrity status to challenge Owaisi’s stronghold in Hyderabad, a seat held by AIMIM for years.
Mirza’s candidacy was reportedly proposed by Azharuddin, who shares familial ties with the tennis star. Azharuddin’s son, Mohammed Asaddudin, is married to Mirza’s sister, Anam Mirza. Azharuddin himself contested the recent Telangana legislative assembly elections but faced defeat.
Hyderabad, known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse demographics, has historically been a stronghold of AIMIM. However, the resurgence of Congress in the region during the 2023 assembly polls has posed a challenge to AIMIM’s dominance, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle.
Notably, Asaduddin Owaisi has held the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat since 2004, following the legacy of his father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi. In the 2019 elections, Owaisi secured a decisive victory with 58.94% of the votes.
For the upcoming elections, BJP has named Madhavi Latha as its candidate, while BRS has fielded Gaddam Srinivas Yadav. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases, beginning on April 19 and concluding on June 1, with Telangana voting on May 13.
