Tensions Erupt During MLA Jaffer Hussain Meraj’s Visit to Rain-Hit Yakutpura Area

Chaos in Yakutpura: Locals Clash with AIMIM Workers During MLA Jaffer Hussain Meraj’s Inspection of Rain Damage

Hyderabad, July 7, 2025:
A tense situation unfolded today in Yakutpura’s Moula ka Chilla area when AIMIM MLA Jaffer Hussain Meraj visited the locality to inspect rain-related damage and nala (drain) overflow caused by recent heavy downpours.

The visit, which was intended to address citizen grievances and review pending drainage work, quickly turned chaotic as angry residents confronted the MLA and AIMIM party workers. Locals alleged that pending nala repair work and poor drainage planning have caused severe waterlogging, leading to water entering their homes and damaging property.

Eyewitnesses report that what began as a heated exchange of words soon escalated into a physical altercation between residents and party workers. Verbal arguments turned into shoving and blows, all unfolding in full view of the MLA.

Concerned for his safety, MLA Meraj was escorted away by his Personal Security Officer (PSO) before the situation worsened further.

The incident highlights the growing public anger over urban flooding, poor civic response, and delayed infrastructure projects in low-lying areas of Hyderabad. Despite repeated complaints, many residents claim that the nala work has remained incomplete, making every monsoon a nightmare for families living in affected zones.

No official statement has been released yet by MLA Meraj or the AIMIM party regarding the clash. Meanwhile, local police are expected to step in to prevent further flare-ups and ensure order is maintained.

As Hyderabad continues to face monsoon-related challenges, this incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for faster and more accountable civic work in flood-prone areas.
