CI Disguises as Farmer, Busts Exploitative Loan Sharks Looting Tribals in Telangana
Samaya Jyothi Shocker: Brave CI Exposes Ruthless Loan Scam Targeting Adivasis
In a stunning and heroic operation under the Samaya Jyothi initiative, a courageous Circle Inspector (CI) disguised himself as a farmer to expose a widespread and exploitative loan racket operating outside several banks in Telangana. The operation was aimed at protecting innocent Adivasis and tribals from being fleeced by illegal loan brokers who were charging a massive 20-30% commission under the pretense of assisting with loan renewals.
This bold step by the Telangana Police has sent a strong message to criminal elements who prey on vulnerable communities, and it has been lauded as a landmark moment in the fight against financial exploitation.
Undercover Operation with a Purpose
The CI, known for his integrity and dedication, went undercover in remote tribal areas, blending in as a distressed farmer seeking loan assistance. His mission: to gather solid evidence on the middlemen who were manipulating tribal borrowers, promising them loan renewals and financial help while pocketing a significant portion of the amount sanctioned by the banks. The scam was rampant across the district, and it is estimated that at least 34 loan sharks were active, charging between 20% to 30% as illegal commissions. These middlemen operated fearlessly outside banks, coercing poor tribals into parting with a large chunk of their much-needed loans in exchange for vague promises of faster processing.
District-Wide Crackdown
Based on the intelligence collected during the operation, the police launched a massive crackdown. In a coordinated effort across the district, 34 brokers were arrested in a single day. The arrests came as a relief to many villagers and small farmers who had long suffered at the hands of these exploiters.
“The Samaya Jyothi initiative aims to empower and protect the most vulnerable sections of our society,” said a senior police official. “Our CI’s undercover work is a testament to how committed we are to ensuring justice reaches the grassroots.”

Based on the intelligence collected during the operation, the police launched a massive crackdown. In a coordinated effort across the district, 34 brokers were arrested in a single day. “The Samaya Jyothi initiative aims to empower and protect the most vulnerable sections of our society,” said a senior police official. “Our CI’s undercover work is a testament to how committed we are to ensuring justice reaches the grassroots.”
How the Scam Worked
According to police sources, these middlemen often approached tribal loan applicants right outside bank premises. They would either pose as “consultants” or threaten delays and rejection of loan renewals if the applicants didn’t comply with their demands. The victims, desperate for financial support and unaware of the actual loan procedures, would often succumb to their pressure.
In one chilling example, a tribal woman was forced to give away ₹6,000 from her ₹20,000 loan renewal – nearly 30% – just to get her loan papers processed. She never received any official receipt or acknowledgment.
Dial 100 – A Lifeline for the Vulnerable
Following this successful crackdown, Telangana Police urged citizens to Dial 100 immediately if they encounter or suspect such exploitation. The helpline will ensure immediate action and protection to prevent such scams from recurring.
“This is not just about crime; it’s about systemic exploitation. We want our tribal citizens to feel safe and supported,” said an officer involved in the sting.
Public Reactions and Praise
The public response has been overwhelmingly positive. Several citizens, activists, and tribal leaders have praised the police’s smart and courageous approach. Social media platforms are buzzing with the hashtag #SamayaJyothi, celebrating the operation as a model for community policing and undercover investigation.
@CIDTelangana and other official handles also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, especially around banks and loan-related schemes in tribal areas.
Next Steps: Awareness and Rehabilitation
In addition to legal action, the police and district administration have pledged to launch awareness campaigns in tribal belts. Special training will be provided to educate people on how to apply for loans, identify legal processes, and avoid middlemen altogether.
Financial literacy drives will be held in collaboration with banks, NGOs, and government departments to ensure such exploitation is eradicated at the root.
