Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Performs Puja for Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Departure Amid Devotional Celebrations

Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi marked its emotional and divine departure today from the sacred Shri Kshetra Dehu to Pandharpur. The auspicious ceremony was graced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who performed the traditional pujas and formally flagged off the palanquin in a spiritually charged atmosphere. The entire event resonated with chants of “Pandurang Hari, Pandurang Hari” and the rhythmic beats of the tal-mridunga, setting the tone for a heartfelt journey filled with devotion.

The event began early in the morning at the Jagadguru Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Sansthan Temple in Dehu, where Chief Minister Fadnavis was welcomed by the temple authorities. Accompanied by Union Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol, MP Sunetra Pawar, MLA Sunil Shelke, and several other dignitaries, he participated in a series of sacred rituals, including the Shri Ganesh Puja, Kalash Puja, Padya Puja, and the departure aarti of the palkhi.

In his prayer, CM Fadnavis fervently asked for the well-being of the farming community and citizens of Maharashtra. “Let the Baliraja of the state remain happy, and may the wishes of all the people be fulfilled. May the flag of success of Maharashtra continue to soar high,” he said, invoking the blessings of Lord Vithoba and Sant Tukaram Maharaj.

The Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi, a central aspect of the revered Ashadhi Wari, began its spiritual procession towards Pandharpur amidst a massive gathering of Warkaris. Men and women, dressed in traditional white dhotis and sarees, carried Tulsi Vrindavans on their heads, held colorful flags, and sang bhajans like “Gyanba Tukaram” and “Mauli, Mauli”, displaying deep reverence for the Wari tradition.

The Chief Minister, after performing the darshan and rituals, also interacted with the Warkari Mauli, paying homage to their unwavering devotion. He was felicitated by the Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Sansthan, and took the opportunity to hold discussions with the temple trustees on further preserving the cultural heritage of the site and promoting the Wari pilgrimage as a global spiritual event.

Following the Mahapuja, the palanquin began its journey to Inamdar Wada, its next destination, accompanied by devotional singing, dancing, and drumbeats. The atmosphere was electric yet profoundly peaceful, as devotees from across the state poured into Dehu to witness and participate in this annual divine event.

Several key figures from Maharashtra’s religious and administrative landscape graced the occasion. Present were Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Sansthan President H.B.P. Jalindar More, Palkhi Ceremony Chief H.B.P. Ganesh Maharaj More, H.B.P. Vaibhav Maharaj More, H.B.P. Dilip Maharaj More, and many trustees including H.B.P. Vikramsinh More, Umesh Maharaj More, and Laxman Maharaj More.

The Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage, which leads up to Ashadhi Ekadashi, is a spiritual march where lakhs of Warkaris walk hundreds of kilometers from different parts of Maharashtra to reach Pandharpur, the abode of Lord Vitthal and Rakhumai. The Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi from Dehu and the Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi from Alandi are the two principal processions that embody the unbreakable faith and discipline of the devotees.

What makes this event more than just a tradition is its inclusive spirit—young and old, rich and poor, all walk shoulder to shoulder in unity, chanting the names of the saints and gods, expressing unwavering devotion that transcends generations. This spiritual movement not only strengthens religious faith but also acts as a cultural binder across communities.

The Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi event is not merely ceremonial; it is a journey of transformation. Warkaris believe that by walking in the footsteps of saints like Tukaram Maharaj, they are not only paying tribute but also purifying their own souls. The discipline, simplicity, and spirituality embodied in the Wari leave a deep imprint on everyone who participates.

The state machinery, under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, has taken active steps in recent years to improve facilities for pilgrims, including better roads, sanitation, food supply, and medical care. These efforts ensure that the spirit of the Dehu to Pandharpur Wari remains undeterred by logistical challenges and continues to thrive in its full glory.

As the palanquin slowly made its way to Inamdar Wada, chants of “Vitthal Vitthal” echoed across Dehu, symbolizing the beginning of another sacred chapter in Maharashtra’s living spiritual tradition. This surprising confluence of devotion and discipline, showcased through the unwavering steps of lakhs of Warkaris, will eventually culminate at Pandharpur—a divine milestone that awaits with open arms.
