KTR Accuses Congress Govt of Negligence in SLBC Tunnel Collapse

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has intensified his attack on the Congress government, citing gross negligence in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse. He demanded justice for the victims and a judicial probe into the incident, holding the ruling party accountable for risking lives and wasting public money.
Ignored Warnings: Experts Had Marked “Red Zone” Before Accident A recent news report also cited another research paper by Mandapalli Raju, former Director General of the Geological Survey of India, and Jaiprakash Associate’s geologist Rituraj Deshmukh. Their findings revealed that the tunneling process began with inadequate subsurface exploration, making the structure highly vulnerable.

Additionally, two separate reports had: Identified the accident site as a “Red Zone” due to structural weaknesses. Warned of seepage and declining rock strength in the tunnel walls. Stressed the need for a structural assessment before resuming work. Despite these warnings, the Congress government resumed tunneling work without conducting any prior study on the structural integrity of the tunnel.

BRS Govt Had Halted Work, Congress Resumed It Without Assessment

KTR pointed out that the previous BRS government had indefinitely halted tunneling after seepage was discovered in the tunnel walls. However, the current Congress government restarted the project, allegedly without verifying safety risks.
KTR stated that eight families have been shattered due to this avoidable tragedy, while thousands of crores of public funds have been wasted. “We demand the truth, from you and your entire cabinet, on behalf of those eight grieving families and others who are seeking answers and justice,” he told Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
KTR Accuses Congress of Corruption & Negligence Expressing shock over the government’s “utter disregard” for safety, KTR questioned why the Congress leadership ignored multiple warnings. “Not one but two reports highlighted the safety issue and even earmarked the exact accident site as a ‘Red Zone’. One of the reports stated this just days before the accident, yet the government went ahead with tunneling work?” he asked. He further alleged that the Congress government allowed tunneling for financial commissions, ignoring the lives of workers.
As public outrage grows, the pressure mounts on the Telangana government to respond to allegations and take concrete action.
