Traffic Police Shocked as Ambulance Misusing Siren Found Transporting Dogs

Hyderabad Police Crack Down on Siren Misuse, Seize Ambulance Carrying Caged Dogs

Hyderabad traffic police have intensified their drive against the unauthorised use of sirens in the city. The special operation, launched on March 3, 2025, aims to curb public inconvenience caused by vehicles misusing sirens. However, during one such vehicle-checking drive, Panjagutta traffic police were in for a shock when they stopped an ambulance blaring its siren. Expecting a critical emergency, officers rushed to inspect the vehicle. To their surprise, they found two dogs locked inside cages instead of a patient in need.

The police immediately seized the ambulance and registered a case against its driver, Laxminarayana, and the vehicle owner, Abdul Kalim. Upon further investigation, officials discovered that the dogs were being transported from Himayathnagar to a private hospital in Madinaguda, Miyapur. The purpose of the transportation was a routine vasectomy procedure for the animals, which did not classify as a medical emergency warranting the use of a siren.

This incident highlights the increasing misuse of sirens, a major concern for Hyderabad police. The ongoing crackdown aims to ensure that sirens are used only for genuine emergencies. Authorities have received multiple complaints from citizens regarding ambulance drivers misusing sirens to bypass traffic and gain unnecessary priority on busy roads. Police officials emphasised that sirens are strictly meant for life-threatening medical situations, and their misuse causes unnecessary panic and disturbance among commuters.
