V Saritha Becomes Telangana’s First Woman TGSRTC Bus Driver

Samaya Jyothi, a leading platform advocating for women’s empowerment and gender equity, hailed the inspiring journey of V Saritha (39) from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, who has become the first woman driver for the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).

Saritha now operates an electric bus on the Hyderabad-Miryalaguda route, a major breakthrough in a domain traditionally dominated by men. Her appointment was facilitated through the JBM Group, a company supporting clean energy transport solutions across India.

This milestone, celebrated with great enthusiasm by the state government and civil society alike, represents not just a personal victory for Saritha but a symbolic moment for women across Telangana aspiring to take on non-traditional roles in public service and transportation.

Recognized by State Leadership

In a formal felicitation ceremony, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar honored Saritha for her achievement and lauded her determination, courage, and commitment.

“This is not just a professional appointment—it is a step toward a more inclusive and progressive Telangana. Saritha has proven that gender should never be a barrier in any profession,” the Minister said.

The Telangana government has been actively promoting diversity and inclusivity in public sector recruitment. Saritha’s induction into the TGSRTC fleet is viewed as a model for what is possible when opportunity meets aspiration.

A Journey of Determination

Saritha’s journey was not easy. Hailing from a modest background, she had to overcome societal pressure, limited access to training, and skepticism from peers. However, her resolve only strengthened with time.

Speaking to reporters, she said:

“I always wanted to drive. It wasn’t just about the job, it was about proving that women can be behind the wheel—of a bus, of change, of their own futures.”

Her appointment was part of a targeted inclusion initiative run by JBM Group, in collaboration with the TGSRTC, aimed at integrating women into technical and operational roles in the transport sector.

Support from Samaya Jyothi

Samaya Jyothi, which runs skill development and gender parity campaigns across Telangana, expressed strong support for Saritha’s achievement and said her story would now be part of their awareness and inspiration programs.

Their spokesperson stated:

“Saritha’s success embodies the mission of Samaya Jyothi — breaking stereotypes, advancing equality, and creating real change at the grassroots. She is not just driving a bus; she’s driving a revolution.”

The organization is now exploring a partnership with TGSRTC to conduct women-focused driving and mechanics workshops, with the goal of recruiting more women drivers across Telangana.

Electric Buses and Women in Clean Transport

Saritha’s role gains even more relevance as she’s at the wheel of an electric bus, symbolizing not just gender transformation but also environmental consciousness.

Electric vehicles are a core part of Telangana’s green mobility mission. By assigning an electric bus to a woman driver, the TGSRTC is promoting both sustainability and inclusivity in one powerful move.
