TTD Chairman BR Naidu Promises Special Puja Opportunity for Banjara Peethadhipas at Hathiram Bawaji Math

Samaya Jyothi: Historic Step as BR Naidu Backs Banjara Puja at Tirupati Math

Tirupati (Samaya Jyothi):
In a momentous and heartwarming development, a delegation comprising several Banjara Peethadhipas from Telangana submitted a formal request to TTD Chairman BR Naidu seeking a platform for tribal spiritual leaders to perform special pujas at the prestigious Hathiram Bawaji Math in Tirupati.

This request, aligned with the spirit of Samaya Jyothi, aims to ensure inclusivity, spiritual representation, and cultural acknowledgment of the Banjara (Sugali/Lambadi) communities across Telugu-speaking states. The focus of the request is the upcoming birth anniversary celebrations of Hathiram Bawaji, scheduled for the 30th of this month.

BR Naidu Responds Positively

In a reassuring and positive gesture, TTD Chairman BR Naidu assured the delegation that their request will be honored. He confirmed that special prayers and offerings will indeed be arranged during the birth anniversary of Hathiram Bawaji.

“The contribution of tribal saints and their devotees must be recognized in our sacred traditions. I promise that this occasion will see full participation from the Banjara Peethadhipas,” BR Naidu said during the meeting.

He further added that a special coordination meeting will be held with the administrators of Hathiram Bawaji Peetham and tribal Peethadhipas to plan and execute the rituals inclusively and respectfully.

A Cultural Plea for Representation

The delegation, composed of Banjara seers, priests, and community heads, emphasized the rich spiritual traditions and contributions of tribal saints, urging the TTD authorities to open the sacred rituals of Hathiram Bawaji Math to Banjara Peethadhipas.

They specifically requested permission to:

  • Perform special pujas

  • Present Naivedyam (holy offerings)

  • Participate in spiritual rituals on the occasion of Hathiram Bawaji’s Jayanti

Significance of Hathiram Bawaji Math

Located in the holy town of Tirupati, Hathiram Bawaji Math is not just a spiritual center but a heritage symbol, deeply tied to the lore of Lord Venkateswara. The Math has traditionally been the preserve of a particular line of caretakers and saints, making this request all the more significant as it seeks to expand the spiritual umbrella to include tribal saints and practices.

Many from the Banjara community are devoted followers of Hathiram Bawaji, and this opportunity could forge new cultural ties between mainstream and tribal devotional streams.

Voices from the Delegation

Peethadhipa Sri Ram Das Sugali, who led the delegation, stated,
“We have always revered Hathiram Bawaji as one of our spiritual icons. Getting a chance to offer Naivedyam and conduct pujas in his honor is not just an honor—it is a spiritual homecoming for our people.”

Another spiritual leader from Nalgonda added, “This step sends a strong message that our beliefs and traditions are respected, and our voices heard at the highest levels.”

A Path to Greater Spiritual Democracy

Experts believe that this could pave the way for similar reforms in other temples and spiritual institutions across India, allowing tribal and marginalized spiritual leaders to participate in rituals that have historically excluded them.

The Samaya Jyothi initiative, by backing such moves, strengthens the idea that every community deserves spiritual dignity and recognition in public religious practices.

Commitment to Zero Tolerance

SP Pushpa Reddy reiterated that there will be zero tolerance for organized crime in Bhupalpally. She urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities through the Samaya Jyothi helpline and digital platforms.

“People’s safety is our top priority. With the help of technology and public support, we will continue to dismantle criminal networks,” she stated.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the six accused under relevant IPC sections. The Bhupalpally police are also coordinating with other district forces to uncover possible links to thefts in other regions. Authorities are confident that this arrest may help solve multiple unsolved cases from neighboring districts.

The recovered property will soon be returned to its rightful owners after legal procedures are completed.
