- Transforming Warangal: Mayor Sudharani & Commissioner Chahat Bajpai Drive FSTP Progress for Smarter Sanitation
US President Donald Trump Postpones Tariffs on Canadian and Mexican Imports Amid Market Concerns
Warangal FSTP Progress is gaining momentum as the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) intensifies its focus on smart sanitation infrastructure. In a recent site visit to the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in the 44th Division, GWMC Mayor Gundu Sudharani Garu and Commissioner Chahat Bajpai Garu jointly inspected the ongoing operations and reviewed the progress of the upcoming 150 KLD FSTP facility under construction at the same location.
This proactive engagement reflects the leadership’s commitment to enhancing urban sanitation and setting new benchmarks for clean, livable cities.
Strategic Review of Existing FSTP Operations
During their visit, Mayor Sudharani and Commissioner Bajpai thoroughly assessed the functioning of the current FSTP unit. The inspection involved examining treatment efficiency, sludge management protocols, safety compliance, and environmental safeguards.
The leaders commended the team for operating the existing facility within prescribed pollution control norms and maintaining hygienic conditions. They reiterated that operational efficiency and compliance are critical for gaining citizen trust in decentralized waste treatment solutions.
150 KLD FSTP Project: A Milestone for Warangal
The new 150 KLD (Kilo Litres per Day) Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant aims to significantly boost Warangal’s fecal sludge treatment capacity, aligning with national goals under AMRUT 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban. The plant is designed to process faecal sludge collected from septic tanks across multiple divisions of the city.
Key features of the upcoming facility include:
Modular treatment units for scalability
Odour control systems and biofilters
Sludge dewatering units for resource recovery
Solar-powered operations to reduce carbon footprint
Real-time monitoring systems for operational transparency
The Commissioner directed the engineering team and contractors to adhere to strict timelines and ensure zero deviation from design specifications.
“Every delay affects service delivery. This plant will be a game changer for Warangal’s sanitation landscape,” said Chahat Bajpai.
Leadership Emphasizes Timely Execution
Mayor Gundu Sudharani emphasized the importance of quality execution and community trust, stating:
“Waste management is not just about treatment — it’s about transforming our cities into healthier, more livable spaces.”
She further added that projects like this FSTP must be complemented with citizen engagement, awareness campaigns, and integration with ward-level cleanliness drives under Pattana Pragathi.
The Mayor and Commissioner jointly instructed sanitation officers, engineers, and contractors to maintain inter-departmental coordination and ensure a seamless commissioning of the 150 KLD facility by the target date.

Driving Smart Sanitation in Telangana
The Warangal FSTP Progress is a cornerstone of Telangana’s broader smart urban sanitation strategy. With Warangal emerging as a smart city and heritage urban center, efficient faecal sludge treatment is key to environmental sustainability and public health.
The new plant is expected to:
Prevent groundwater contamination
Improve hygiene and sanitation in peri-urban areas
Support sustainable reuse of treated sludge in agriculture
Reduce dependence on centralized STPs for off-grid areas
This initiative is also aligned with GWMC’s vision to become a model for decentralized sanitation infrastructure in India.
Community & Policy Support
The project is being closely monitored by the Telangana CMO, Urban Development Department, and District Collectors of Hanumakonda and Warangal. Their digital tagging and social media updates reflect the transparency and public accountability GWMC has embraced.
Officials have also confirmed that training sessions for desludging operators, digital logbooks, and geo-tagged tracking of sludge movement will be rolled out alongside the FSTP commissioning.
Setting the Standard for Other Cities
Warangal’s leadership in implementing decentralized faecal sludge management is already being studied by other municipalities in Telangana and across India. The 150 KLD plant is expected to become a demonstration model for cities struggling with unregulated septic systems and manual desludging practices.
By combining smart technology, inclusive policy, and strong civic leadership, Warangal is setting an example of what citizen-first urban governance can achieve.
Final Thoughts
The Warangal FSTP Progress exemplifies a shift from reactive sanitation to proactive urban transformation. With the committed involvement of leaders like Mayor Gundu Sudharani and Commissioner Chahat Bajpai, the city is fast-tracking infrastructure that safeguards public health, promotes environmental responsibility, and enhances the quality of life.
As Warangal continues its journey under the #SwachhWarangal and #TransformingWarangal campaigns, projects like these are turning bold policy into real, visible change.
