New Delhi, June 17, 2025:
The winners of the prestigious Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2023-24 were hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in a celebratory event that recognized young literary talent from across the country. Organized annually by the Tata group, the competition has emerged as one of India’s largest school-level essay contests, aimed at nurturing future leaders through the power of expression.

The event marked a significant milestone in the journey of the selected students, many of whom visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the first time. The President warmly interacted with the winners, appreciating their thoughts, aspirations, and ideas presented through their essays. She lauded the Tata Group’s initiative in promoting literacy, critical thinking, and civic responsibility among the younger generation.

“Writing is a mirror to the mind. When young students express themselves through essays, they offer us a glimpse into the hopes and dreams of tomorrow’s India,” President Murmu said. She encouraged students to continue nurturing their passion for writing and contribute meaningfully to society.

The Tata Building India School Essay Competition is conducted in over 4,000 schools across 200 cities in 13 languages, including Hindi, English, and several regional dialects. Since its inception in 2006, the competition has reached over 20 million students, making it one of the largest of its kind. This year, the theme revolved around Nation Building Through Innovation and Sustainability—a topic that resonates deeply with the country’s developmental agenda.

Students were judged on their originality, clarity of thought, grammar, and relevance to the theme. The national-level winners were chosen after city and state-level selections and were flown to Delhi for a special two-day program that culminated in their meeting with the President.

The finalists also had the opportunity to interact with thought leaders and industry experts during a guided tour of key landmarks in the capital. A special felicitation ceremony was organized where the students were awarded certificates, trophies, and memorabilia in recognition of their accomplishments.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Harish Bhat, Brand Custodian of Tata Sons, emphasized the role of such initiatives in nation-building. “The youth are the torchbearers of our future. By encouraging them to write and think critically about national issues, we are sowing the seeds of a more aware and responsible citizenry.”

He further stated that the competition aligns with the Tata Group’s vision of contributing to India’s educational and social landscape. Over the years, it has produced many inspiring stories of young children from diverse backgrounds, using the platform to amplify their voices.

Among this year’s winners was Samaya Jyothi, a 15-year-old student from Hyderabad, who impressed the jury with her eloquent piece on sustainable innovation. She described how small technological changes can create a large impact when scaled thoughtfully. “I never imagined that writing an essay could bring me here. Meeting the President was a dream come true,” she shared with a beaming smile.

The program was attended by dignitaries from the Tata group, educationists, and members of the President’s Secretariat. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, promise, and a sense of national pride as the young writers shared their stories and aspirations.

The Tata Building India initiative continues to inspire young minds to participate in the democratic dialogue and envision a better future for India. With each passing year, the competition reinforces the values of creativity, civic sense, and national service.

As these young champions return to their hometowns, they carry not only accolades but also a renewed sense of purpose, ready to shape the narrative of a progressive and innovative India.
