CM Fadnavis Reviews Maharashtra’s Key Infrastructure Projects Including Expressways, Airports, and Railway Corridors
Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra gained fresh momentum as Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired a comprehensive review meeting focusing on the state’s flagship infrastructure projects. The high-level meeting included detailed status updates on expressways, ring roads, multimodal corridors, railways, and airports, aiming to fast-track development and enhance regional connectivity across Maharashtra.
Key MSRDC Projects Reviewed
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is spearheading several ambitious projects aimed at transforming the transportation landscape of the state. The review meeting gave special attention to:
Shaktipeeth Highway – A religious and tourism-centric corridor aimed at connecting various Shaktipeeths in Maharashtra to encourage spiritual tourism and regional trade.
Multi-Modal Corridor (MMC) – This corridor will act as a backbone for logistic movement, interlinking industrial zones, townships, and ports.
Jalna-Nanded Expressway – A strategic expressway to connect two key cities in the Marathwada region, aimed at cutting down travel time and boosting trade.
Pune Ring Road (West & East) – The dual-phase ring road project is essential to reduce congestion in Pune and improve intra-city logistics.
Pune Ring Road East Extension – Expanding the connectivity to the outskirts, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhanced accessibility.
Vadhavan–Igatpuri Expressway – A major link expected to bridge the coastal regions with inland Maharashtra.
These infrastructure projects are not just essential for smoother travel but also for socio-economic growth, job creation, and attracting investments.
Major Projects in Vidarbha
The Vidarbha region, often perceived as underdeveloped in terms of infrastructure, received considerable focus. Some of the major road projects discussed include:
Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway
Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway
Nagpur-Gondia Expressway
Navegaon (Mor)–Surjagad Mineral Corridor
These roads will not only connect remote areas but also aid in the transportation of mineral resources, especially through the Surjagad Mineral Corridor, which is crucial for industrial growth.
Vidarbha’s development has been a key agenda under CM Fadnavis’s leadership, and the review reiterated his commitment to bringing balanced growth across all regions of Maharashtra.

The review also covered two pivotal railway infrastructure projects in the interior regions:
Wardha – Nanded Rail Line
Wadsa – Gadchiroli Rail Line
These lines will enhance accessibility to interior districts, enable better passenger and freight transport, and reduce dependency on road transport for long-distance routes.
Airports Under Focus
Air connectivity is another area where Maharashtra is looking to expand its regional footprint. The airports reviewed during the meeting include:
Kolhapur Airport
Karad Airport
Akola Airport
Gadchiroli Airport
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport
Upgrades and operational enhancements at these airports are expected to increase regional tourism, improve logistics, and support the Make in Maharashtra movement by opening up new trade routes.
Holistic Infrastructure Development Approach
CM Fadnavis emphasized a time-bound implementation strategy and the importance of inter-departmental coordination for faster project execution. He directed all stakeholders to remove bottlenecks and expedite approvals related to land acquisition, environmental clearances, and utility shifting.
“The infrastructure push is non-negotiable. It is the backbone of a progressive state. We are committed to delivering these projects on time and with high quality,” stated CM Fadnavis during the meeting.

Once completed, these mega infrastructure projects will:
