HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath Inspects Durgam Cheruvu Drain Network Ahead of Monsoon

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath Inspects Durgam Cheruvu to Strengthen Flood Resilience in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Telangana – With heavy rains looming over the city, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath carried out an on-ground inspection of flood canals and stormwater drains in and around Durgam Cheruvu, Madhapur, as part of a city-wide urban flood preparedness initiative.

The Commissioner closely examined the lake’s inflow and outflow points, identified choke points in the drainage system, and assessed the status of flood-prone zones near the Inorbit Mall stretch, where illegal dumping and encroachments continue to threaten the water flow network.

To mitigate flood risks, he emphasized the urgent need to:

  • Widen existing flood canals

  • Divert excess stormwater toward Malkam Cheruvu

  • Crack down on unregulated waste dumping and encroachments

During his visit, Ranganath also interacted with local residents, many of whom shared grievances about frequent inundation and sewage backflow during even moderate rain. He assured that immediate corrective measures are underway and strict action will be taken against offenders contributing to the city’s drainage issues.

Urban flooding is preventable with civic discipline and planned infrastructure. We’re taking every step to stay ahead of the rains,” the Commissioner stated.

As Hyderabad braces for its seasonal downpours, HYDRAA has intensified its monsoon readiness drive, inspecting critical drainage lines, lakes, and connecting outfalls to ensure minimal urban flooding and better water flow management.
