In preparation for the New Year celebrations, the Hyderabad Police have announced strict traffic restrictions for December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025, to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety. Key areas, including Tank Bund, ORR, and other popular spots, will see heightened police presence and surveillance to manage the festivities and large gatherings.
The traffic restrictions will primarily target high-traffic areas such as Tank Bund, NTR Marg, PVNR Marg (Necklace Road), and popular spots like Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, and Saifabad. These locations are expected to see a large number of people out celebrating, and the police presence will be amplified across 172 busy junctions and intersections throughout the city to ensure safe travel and traffic discipline.
Hyderabad Traffic Restrictions for New Year | Specific Traffic Restrictions for New Year’s Eve
As part of the special traffic arrangements, Tank Bund and surrounding areas will be closed off to all private and public transport vehicles from 11 PM on December 31 until the conclusion of the New Year celebrations, typically by 2 AM on January 1, 2025.
Additionally, traffic flow along NTR Marg, PVNR Marg, and Necklace Road will be restricted from 11 PM on December 31 to 2 AM on January 1, effectively diverting vehicles from these critical roads.

The Hyderabad Police have also imposed restrictions on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), particularly for heavy and medium goods vehicles. These vehicles will be prohibited from traveling on the ORR between 10:30 PM and 2 AM. Construction and debris vehicles are also banned from entering the Cyberabad limits during the same hours.
All flyovers in the city, except for the Begumpet and Tolichowki flyovers, will be closed to traffic during the night of December 31. - GHMC Head Office lane
- Race Course Road (beside NTR Ghat)
- Adarsh Nagar Lane (two-wheelers only)
- NTR Stadium

The Hyderabad Traffic Police have issued a stern warning to motorists about the dangers of drunk driving. As part of the New Year festivities, extensive checks will be conducted to curb traffic violations, particularly targeting drunken driving, rash driving, speeding, wrong-side driving, and violations related to two-wheelers, such as helmetless riding and triple-riding.
The police have strongly advised people who plan to drink to use public transport or cabs to return home safely. In addition, hotel, club, bar, and event managers are being directed to provide special parking arrangements and ensure the safety of their patrons by offering safe transportation options for those intoxicated.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police have outlined strict penalties for those caught driving under the influence. The fine for drunk driving will be Rs 10,000 and/or six months of imprisonment. Repeat offenders could face the suspension or revocation of their driving licenses.
