- Gaddar’s Photo Missing in Film Awards Invite Sparks Row
Lack of Gaddar's Photo in Film Awards Invitation Sparks Outrage
Hyderabad (Samaya Jyothi):
Gaddar, the legendary people’s poet and revolutionary singer, has once again become the center of political and cultural discourse — this time due to a glaring omission by the Telangana Congress government. The government’s recent invitation letter for a state film awards function, reportedly named in honor of Gaddar, has come under fire for not including his photo — a move widely condemned by cultural figures, political leaders, and the public.
Strong reactions emerged after it was observed that the official invitation to the upcoming state film awards ceremony did not carry Gaddar’s image, despite the event being named after him. This decision, perceived by many as a serious oversight or even a deliberate act of disrespect, has triggered a wave of criticism against the government.
Leaders from various political backgrounds voiced their disappointment and anger, stating that the Congress government has failed to show even basic courtesy toward one of the state’s most beloved cultural icons.
“It is extremely disheartening and condemnable,” said a political leader, speaking to Samaya Jyothi. “On one hand, the Congress government proudly invokes Gaddar’s name at public meetings and cultural platforms. But on the other, they cannot find space for his image on an invitation that bears his name. This is sheer hypocrisy.”
Gaddar, who passed away in 2023, is remembered as a symbol of revolution, social justice, and voice of the oppressed. His songs inspired generations and served as powerful expressions of resistance, equality, and Telugu cultural identity. He was not just a singer, but an emblem of the people’s struggle.
“The absence of Gaddar’s photo in such an important cultural invite is not a minor issue,” said a cultural activist from Hyderabad. “It is symbolic of how we treat our revolutionaries after their death. The least the government can do is honor him with a portrait at the awards function.”

Gaddar Disrespected in Congress Govt's Film Awards Invite
Supporters and cultural organizations have taken to social media using hashtags like #RespectGaddar, #HonorOurIcons, and #GaddarFilmAwards, calling for accountability and appropriate tribute.
Meanwhile, members of Gaddar’s family and close associates expressed disappointment but refrained from overt criticism. “We believe that Gaddar’s work and spirit transcend such invitations,” said one family member. “But we do hope the government corrects this mistake and upholds the dignity he deserves.”
The Congress government has not yet released an official statement in response to the backlash. However, internal sources suggest that senior officials have taken note of the criticism and may address the issue ahead of the awards event.
Observers have noted that the way the state handles this controversy will send a strong message about how cultural icons are valued posthumously. Honoring Gaddar in both name and presence would not only uphold his legacy but also demonstrate true respect for Telangana’s cultural revolution.
As the date of the awards ceremony nears, the public continues to watch closely. A genuine tribute, beginning with a correction to the official visuals and formal acknowledgment during the event, may help restore the spirit with which the awards were initially conceived.
Samaya Jyothi will continue to report on the developments around this issue and reflect the sentiments of the people who continue to draw inspiration from Gaddar’s undying voice.
