Sunrisers Hyderabad Set New Record with 277/3 Against Mumbai Indians, Highest Total in IPL History

Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved a historic milestone by posting a colossal total of 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians, marking the highest score ever recorded in IPL history. This remarkable feat shattered the previous record held by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who scored 263/5 against Pune Warriors India in 2013.

The match, held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, witnessed a spectacular display of batting prowess from Sunrisers’ Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen, each contributing significant half-centuries to the monumental total.

During the PowerPlay, Sunrisers took control. Travis Head got an early reprieve when Tim David dropped him at mid-off in Pandya’s opening ball, with Head batting on 5. Head capitalized on this opportunity, punishing Maphaka for 22 runs in the third over. The South African, making his debut as a replacement for Dilshan Madushanka, faced difficulty as Head smashed two consecutive sixes, first over long-on and then a powerful pull over deep mid-wicket. The scoring momentum continued with two successive boundaries.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Travis Head broke the  record for the fastest IPL fifty, achieving it in just 18 balls earlier in the game.

However, Mayank Agarwal had a disappointing outing. Pandya, switching ends, surprised Agarwal with a short delivery, resulting in Agarwal’s dismissal as David held the catch at mid-on, ending the 45-run opening partnership. Despite losing a wicket, Head reached his fifty in just 18 deliveries with a strong shot through mid-off and concluded the PowerPlay with a confident pull over deep square leg. With 81 runs amassed during the PowerPlay, Sunrisers were well on their way to setting a substantial total.

Even after the PowerPlay, Sunrisers maintained their aggressive approach. Abhishek Sharma struck Piyush Chawla for a boundary over backward square leg, bringing up the fifty-run partnership and then stylishly reached 100 with a six over long-on. However, Gerald Coetzee ended Head’s impressive innings by dismissing him at deep mid-wicket, breaking the 68-run partnership.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Abhishek hit the fastest IPL fifty by an SRH batter in 16 balls, beating Head’s record of 18 balls from earlier in the game.

Abhishek showed unstoppable form, claiming the record for the quickest half-century by an SRH batsman in just 20 balls, highlighted by six sixes and two boundaries. Chawla managed to break through, dismissing Abhishek after a stellar 23-ball 63. The team reached the 200-run mark by the 15th over, aided by Klaasen’s boundary off a Bumrah delivery.

The dynamic partnership between Klaasen and Markram, dubbed “The Klaasen-Markram Show,”

The dynamic partnership between Klaasen and Markram continued to dominate the Mumbai bowlers, marking the second fifty-run collaboration of the innings. Unfortunately, it was a forgettable debut for young Maphaka, who conceded 66 runs in his four overs. The runs flowed freely on the excellent batting surface, with Klaasen reaching his half-century in just 23 balls.

As the partnership reached the 100-run mark, numerous milestones were shattered, with Klaasen’s exceptional performance driving the team’s score to the highest in IPL history. His impressive shots, including a remarkable six over long-on, highlighted the last five overs, during which 75 runs were scored without losing any wickets. Mumbai’s bowling faltered, providing opportunities that the Sunrisers’ batsmen eagerly seized, with Klaasen leading the charge once again, finishing unbeaten with 80 runs off 34 balls and claiming the Orange Cap.

Tilak’s aggressive batting kept Mumbai in the chase

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan emerged aggressively, quickly forming a formidable 56-run partnership in just 20 balls. Rohit dominated Jaydev Unadkat with consecutive sixes, while Ishan capitalized on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s over, collecting 23 runs. However, it was Tilak Varma who altered the game’s momentum, injecting hope into Mumbai’s pursuit with a rapid half-century off 24 balls.

As the Sunrisers sought a breakthrough, Unadkat returned to dismiss the 84-run partnership between Tilak and Naman Dhir. Tilak showcased an exhilarating performance, sustaining Mumbai’s chase with powerful strokes. Utilizing the aerial route, he disrupted the bowlers’ rhythm, effortlessly finding gaps and dismantling Shahbaz Ahmed’s economical bowling with a blistering 22-run over.

Yet, the chase lost momentum when Cummins re-entered the attack, claiming Tilak’s wicket after a stellar 64 off 34 balls. Although Pandya initiated strongly with a six and a boundary, Cummins’ tight spell, conceding only three runs in an over, shifted the game in favor of the home team.
