Sikkim Governor Shri Om Mathur met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today to deliberate on pressing development priorities and future-oriented initiatives in the state. The meeting marked an important moment in strengthening Centre-State coordination for regional progress.
Shri Om Mathur, who assumed office as the Governor of Sikkim in early 2024, is known for his deep-rooted commitment to public service and national growth. His engagement with the Prime Minister reflects the importance of collaboration in accelerating holistic development, particularly in the northeastern states.
During the high-level meeting, key topics were addressed including infrastructure advancement, rural connectivity, education reform, and tourism enhancement in Sikkim. Governor Mathur emphasized the importance of sustainable development, given the ecological sensitivity of the region. Discussions also included border infrastructure development, digital connectivity for remote areas, and empowering local communities through skill-based initiatives.

Governor Mathur mentioned new strategies being planned to ensure that local farmers gain better market access and digital support. Additionally, skill development programs aimed at youth empowerment and employment generation were also discussed.
Governor Om Mathur highlighted the significance of investing in tourism infrastructure, particularly eco-tourism and spiritual tourism. He emphasized that improved roadways, safer travel options, and digital tourism platforms can dramatically boost local economies while preserving cultural and environmental heritage.
In a tweet after the meeting, Shri Om Mathur wrote:

PM Modi, in turn, appreciated the Governor’s dedication and proactive governance. Government sources noted that the meeting was part of a broader consultative approach being followed by the Centre to ensure inclusivity and feedback from all corners of the nation.
Political analysts see this meeting as significant, especially in the context of the government’s renewed focus on the Northeast and border areas. Sikkim, with its strategic location and peace-loving citizens, continues to play a vital role in national security and regional diplomacy.
The visit also serves as a message of reassurance to the people of Sikkim that their voices are heard at the highest levels of governance. This initiative underlines the Government of India’s agenda of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”
Governor Mathur’s ongoing efforts in modernizing administrative operations and promoting inclusive development in Sikkim have gained appreciation from both state residents and national leadership. His engagement with the Prime Minister adds another milestone to Sikkim’s journey toward becoming a model state in sustainable development.
As India advances toward its Amrit Kaal vision, such interactions between State Governors and national leadership are crucial for aligning regional goals with national aspirations.
