CM Chandrababu Naidu Initiates Review for Establishing Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh —
In a significant move to boost aviation education and infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu has directed the relevant authorities to examine the prospects and challenges associated with establishing a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam. This initiative underlines the state government’s vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a future hub for aviation training and international connectivity.
During a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat, CM Naidu emphasized the urgent need to enhance aviation-related education facilities in the state. “Visakhapatnam is strategically positioned and has the potential to become an epicenter for aviation learning in India,” he stated. The proposed university is expected to provide world-class training in aeronautical engineering, aviation management, air traffic control, and pilot training, among other disciplines.
The Chief Minister also stressed improving air connectivity between various airports in the state and major domestic and international destinations. He instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to upgrade the existing air network, focusing on increased frequencies, better interlinkages, and modernized infrastructure. Naidu highlighted that robust aviation connectivity would not only support tourism and business but also complement the future Civil Aviation University by facilitating easier access for students and faculty from across the globe.

This forward-looking announcement has been well-received by stakeholders in the aviation and education sectors. Industry experts believe that such a university could place Andhra Pradesh prominently on the global aviation education map and cater to the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals in India and abroad.
The move aligns with the Chief Minister’s larger vision for the development of Samaya Jyothi—a strategic roadmap for inclusive and futuristic growth in the state. Under the Samaya Jyothi initiative, the government aims to ensure equitable development through the integration of technology, education, and infrastructure across urban and rural landscapes.
Senior government officials have been asked to conduct a feasibility study considering multiple factors such as land availability, international collaborations, faculty recruitment, student intake, and accreditation processes. Discussions are also underway with international aviation bodies to explore potential academic and technical partnerships.
Simultaneously, a task force has been constituted to assess the current state of airport connectivity in Andhra Pradesh. The team will evaluate how to improve linkages from cities like Vijayawada, Tirupati, Kurnool, Rajahmundry, and Kadapa to other national metros and global hubs such as Dubai, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur.
The Civil Aviation University is not just expected to provide academic excellence but will also pave the way for job creation, ancillary business growth, and regional economic development. In addition, the institution may foster innovation and research in the aviation sector through incubators, skill development programs, and industry-academic collaborations.
Public reactions to the announcement have been largely positive. Many aspiring students and aviation enthusiasts have expressed excitement about the potential opportunities this university could bring. Local business leaders are optimistic that such a move will uplift Visakhapatnam’s profile and attract foreign investment.
Chief Minister Naidu concluded his address by reiterating his government’s commitment to developing Andhra Pradesh into a knowledge-driven economy. “We must invest in institutions that empower the youth and build the foundation for future-ready industries,” he said.
As the proposal enters its planning and evaluation stage, all eyes will be on how quickly and effectively the vision for a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam takes shape. With strong political will and strategic backing under the Samaya Jyothi development model, Andhra Pradesh could soon lead the skies in aviation education.
