On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, the District Collector inaugurated a significant blood donation camp on Saturday at the auditorium of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) College campus. The camp, organized in collaboration with local health authorities and NGOs, witnessed enthusiastic participation from medical students, faculty, and members of the public

The event was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and its critical role in saving lives. As part of the initiative, the District Collector interacted with donors and healthcare workers, applauding their dedication and selfless service. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to all voluntary donors and organizing members.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector emphasized the urgent need for safe and adequate blood supply. “Blood donation is not just an act of service but a life-saving gesture. It is essential that more citizens, especially the youth, come forward voluntarily to support this noble cause,” the Collector stated.

The auditorium was abuzz with activity as donors queued up to contribute. Each donor was thoroughly screened, and medical teams ensured hygienic and safe procedures. The event strictly followed all health protocols, providing a reassuring environment for first-time and regular donors alike.

Senior officials from the Telangana Health Department and representatives from various departments, including the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, extended their support through social media, encouraging wider participation. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, also acknowledged the efforts made in Telangana, appreciating the local administration for fostering a culture of voluntary blood donation.

The participation and encouragement from these leaders greatly boosted morale at the camp. Many expressed their appreciation for the cause on social media, using the opportunity to raise awareness about regular blood donation and its vital role in public health.

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) played a pivotal role in making the event successful. Faculty members volunteered actively, guiding and supporting students throughout the donation process. The camp was organized in collaboration with Blood Donors India and supported by various NGOs, underlining the power of collective effort in addressing healthcare challenges.

Highlighting the importance of this day, the District Collector mentioned that World Blood Donor Day is celebrated globally on June 14th to commemorate the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who discovered blood groups. The day serves as a reminder of the need for regular blood donation and the invaluable contributions of unpaid donors.

The event concluded with a group photo and a pledge by participants to donate blood regularly and encourage others in their communities. The district administration plans to conduct similar camps in schools, colleges, and public institutions in the coming months to keep the momentum alive.

As Telangana continues to lead in healthcare initiatives, events like these reaffirm the state’s commitment to community well-being and proactive governance.
