Malaysia’s Raffles University plans to launch a degree program taught and assessed entirely by artificial intelligence. This initiative follows the development of MyAi Teaching Assistant by Professor Sasa Arsovski, the dean of the Faculty of AI and Robotics.

Given the recent surge in artificial intelligence (AI), the university chose to implement the MyAi Teaching Assistant platform for this pioneering AI-taught program.

The university claims that the “AI Lecturer” can teach independently. Students will interact with AI instructor clones, allowing them to log in and engage in an interactive learning experience. These AI clones promote active participation and enable students to pause lessons for clarification.

To ensure success, experts will distill their knowledge and experience into PowerPoint presentations. These will guide the AI in designing and presenting lessons.

Moreover, AI will tailor learning experiences for each student, assessing understanding and generating personalized homework based on interactions with the AI clone. This system will also handle homework evaluation, freeing educators to focus on engaging with students.

The platform provides detailed data analytics for each student, helping educators refine teaching methods and customize their approach. Addressing concerns about losing the human touch, Associate Professor Greg Pritchard assured that AI lecturers use human avatars to simulate interaction, with real academics supervising the process.

Professor Arsovski has previously used this AI platform for his classes during absences, and the university plans to extend this model to other degree areas. Despite this, the university does not anticipate a reduction in faculty hiring. “We are hiring more digital support staff but do not foresee a drop in physical academic staff. The AI degree aims to offer educational opportunities to those who cannot afford traditional university experiences,” Prof Pritchard noted.

The program is expected to launch in October, with the university applying for Malaysian Qualifications Agency accreditation next month. It will be offered as an online Open Distance Learning (ODL) program, with the fee anticipated to be around $2000.
