Disaster Averted as NH-66 Flyover Collapses Near Kooriyad–Kolappuram; No Casualties Reported

Disaster Averted, But Questions Remain After NH-66 Flyover Collapse

In a shocking incident, a major portion of the NH-66 six-lane flyover under construction between Kooriyad and Kolappuram collapsed onto the service road, narrowly missing vehicles passing by. Miraculously, no casualties or injuries were reported, but the event has sparked panic and outrage among locals.

The collapse occurred on a critical section of the Kozhikode–Thrissur route, leading to significant traffic disruptions and long detours for commuters. Emergency personnel were quick to cordon off the area and redirect traffic, preventing further mishaps.

Residents and eyewitnesses have pointed fingers at poor-quality materials and alleged negligence in the construction process. Protesters gathered at the site shortly after the incident, demanding answers from the contractor and strict government intervention.

“We narrowly escaped what could have been a deadly tragedy,” said a local shopkeeper. “This is not just a construction flaw—this is criminal negligence.”

As investigations begin, the incident has raised serious concerns about infrastructure safety, quality control, and contractor accountability in large-scale public projects.

A wake-up call for infrastructure safety? The public certainly thinks so.
