Hyderabad Collector Hari Chandana Joins Minister Ponnam Prabhakar for Strategic Bonalu Review Meeting

Bonalu Festival Arrangements are in full swing across Hyderabad as key stakeholders join hands to ensure a smooth and culturally vibrant celebration this year. In a high-level review meeting chaired by Hon’ble Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Collector of Hyderabad, Smt. Hari Chandana, IAS, actively participated, signaling a proactive and people-first approach to one of Telangana’s most cherished festivals.

The meeting focused on pre-event readiness, infrastructure, public convenience, law and order, sanitation, and inter-departmental coordination for the upcoming Bonalu Festival 2025. The collective emphasis was on delivering a seamless experience for lakhs of devotees expected to participate across Hyderabad.

Festival with a Cultural Soul

Bonalu is more than a religious event—it’s a cultural symbol that brings together diverse communities in reverence of Goddess Mahakali. From decorated temples to vibrant processions, the festival is an epitome of devotion and Telangana tradition. Recognizing the significance, Bonalu Festival Arrangements are given top priority in the district’s planning calendar every year.

Administrative Synergy at Its Best

During the session, Collector Hari Chandana emphasized inter-departmental communication and accountability. She stressed that departments must coordinate with clarity, especially GHMC, Police, Medical, Water Works, Electricity, and Endowments. Her key directive: “Timely execution and real-time response are non-negotiable for the safety and comfort of our citizens.”

Minister Ponnam Prabhakar praised the collector’s proactive engagement and called for “zero gaps” in planning. “We owe it to the people of Hyderabad to ensure that Bonalu happens in its full spiritual grandeur, but also with modern civic readiness,” he noted

Women Leadership in Festival Governance

This year’s Bonalu Festival Arrangements see a remarkable highlight: Collector Hari Chandana leading from the front as a strong woman administrator, showcasing how inclusive leadership is transforming civic engagement. Her track record of people-centric governance was evident in her sharp focus on accessibility, safety, and responsiveness during the meeting.

She directed her team to map out locations that require additional mobile toilets, lighting, and barricading—especially in densely crowded temple areas like Ujjaini Mahakali Temple in Secunderabad, Akkanna Madanna Temple in Old City, and other high-footfall locations.

Community Participation Encouraged

Collector Hari Chandana also suggested including local youth organizations and residential welfare associations (RWAs) to assist in crowd management and information dissemination. Volunteers will play a key role in guiding devotees and responding to basic queries, helping ease the burden on official resources.

To this, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar added, “Bonalu belongs to the people. We must involve them at every step. Their participation will only make our arrangements stronger.”

Technological Edge in Arrangements

Another major step discussed was leveraging technology. The Collector proposed a real-time monitoring system that would use CCTV feeds and live reports from various mandals. Control rooms will be operational throughout the festival period to monitor crowd movements, address emergencies, and coordinate between departments swiftly.

A dedicated mobile app for Bonalu information—including temple timings, traffic diversions, helpline numbers, and festival schedules—is also under development, promising to make the festival experience more connected and informed.

Safety Is Paramount

With large crowds expected, the Collector has asked for mock drills to be conducted at major temples, especially in Secunderabad, Karwan, and Lal Darwaza areas. Coordination between the Police Department, Fire Services, and Health Departments is being structured through nodal officers who will be on 24×7 duty during festival days.

Special attention is being given to senior citizens, children, and differently-abled devotees, with dedicated help desks, ramps, and first-aid points.

Conclusion: A Festival with Heart and Planning

The Bonalu Festival Arrangements meeting marked a new milestone in collaborative festival management in Hyderabad. With strong leadership from Collector Hari Chandana and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the district is gearing up to host a festive season that’s not just vibrant and spiritual, but also safe, inclusive, and well-coordinated.

Their combined vision ensures that Bonalu 2025 will not only uphold the traditions of Telangana but will also reflect the strength of good governance.
